CLASS SCHEDULE
FALL/WINTER 2009

Please note:  The number of hours required for each class has been carefully considered by each instructor.   With class attendance and required at home work done,  the projects listed for each class will be completed.  Should a student or class require additional sessions,  fees will be charged accordingly.  Any make up classes will be scheduled after the original class has ended.

Class Title:  Knitting 101 Workshop
  Experience Level:  Absolute Beginner
Instructor:    Bette Toscano
$ 45.00 Plus Materials (1 skein of worsted weight yarn recommended.  Come join us for a three hour workshop and learn all the basics of knitting;  Casting On,  the Knit Stitch, the Purl Stitch, and Binding Off.   Enough to get you knitting  a simple scarf or wash cloth.  Once you know the basics, you can knit anything!  Be creative, have fun!  Additional supplies include size 8US needles (or size appropriate for yarn being used)

Class Title:  Intermediate Knitting
  Experience Level:  Intermediate (basic knitting skills necessary)

$  60.00 Plus Materials ( Bring a project you want to make using different techniques, or 1 skein of worsted weight yarn and appropriate needles to make samples of different techniques)  After you have knit all the scarves you possible can, come learn new techniques needed to take your knitting to the next level.  In this class you will cover increases, decreases, cables, patterning, buttonholes and a variety of stitches.  This class will enable you to tackle any project you want!  Don’t hesitate to sign up for this one as it fills up fast.

Class Title:  Crochet 101 Workshop
  Experience Level:  Beginner
Instructor:   Roxanne (Rocky) Alberts
$ 45.00 Plus Materials    For all of you who have been asking about crochet.  Join Roxanne in this 3 hour workshop to learn all the basics of crochet from chain stitch to treble crochet.   With these techniques, you will be ready to crochet scarves and simple afghans in no time at all.

Class Title:  Elizabeth Zimmerman’s Baby Surprise Jacket
  Experience Level:  Intermediate

$  80.00 Plus Materials  This is a classic sweater that people have been knitting for babies for a long time.  Knit in one piece, the question we hear the most about this sweater is “ how the heck is this going to be a sweater”?  Once it’s done, it all makes sense.  Great class!

Class Title:  Children’s Checkerboard “Stash Buster” Sweater

$80.00 Plus Materials  Let’s face it, all true knitters have “A Stash”.  Whether you have just a bunch of balls of yarn  left over from other projects, or skeins of yarns you just had to have, but can’t remember why,  This is the project for you.  Great color block children’s sweater with a unique rib effect for the color and cuffs.  Sample is in the store for your viewing pleasure

Class Title:  Snowflake Shadow Knitting Scarf
  Experience Level:  Intermediate
Instructor:    Roxanne Alberts
$40.00  Plus Materials  -  We recommend two different, STRONG contrast worsted weight yarns such as Plymouth Encore or Plymouth Galway, but any worsted weight yarn would work; approximately 400 yards.   This is a great technique that Roxanne learned at a recent conference, and she is excited to share her knowledge.  The design shows up like magic.

Class Title:  Basic Sock Class
  Experience Level:  Strong Beginner/Intermediate

$60.00 Plus Materials  (approximately 400-450 yards of sock weight yarn)  Knitting socks is all the rage right now.  Once you see all the beautiful sock yarns available you will know why.  Working with four needles can be a little intimidating, but Bette will put you at ease and have you making socks for everyone in your family in no time flat.  Additional supplies include double pointed needles sized appropriate for yarn used; usually US size 1 or 2  and basic knitting supplies

Class Title:  Crochet Christmas Afghan Squares
  Experience Level:  Intermediate
Instructor:   Roxanne Alberts
$  60.00 Plus Materials - Worsted weight yarn - Encore or Galway recommended, in colors Red, Green and White.  In this class you will learn several different techniques to use in creating squares that can be joined to create a lovely holiday afghan.  Some of the techniques include a color work tree, a granny square snowflake, a  crocheted square with a needle felted candy cane.

Class Title:  Traditional Christmas Stocking
  Experience Level:  Intermediate

$ 60.00 Plus Materials  Learn to make beautiful Christmas stockings for the whole family.  Choose  from five different designs including Hearts and Holly, a Moose, a Horse, a Snowman and a Candy Cane.  The patterns used  are from a company called Yarns for Ewe and the yarn recommended is the classic Candide.  You will cover color work with bobbins, reading charts, and turning a heel.

Class Title:  Kid’s Felted Christmas Ornaments
  Experience Level:  Beginner

$ 60.00 Plus Materials  In this class, designed especially for kids, Kay will teach you how to knit  and wet felt small ornaments to share with friends, give as teachers gifts, or hang on your own tree.

Class Title:  Knitted “Paper” Chain
  Experience Level:  Strong Beginner/Intermediate

$ 20.00 Plus Materials  Remember those paper chains you used to make to when you were a kid.  The ones  you would decorate your class room with or wrap around your Christmas tree.  Now, learn to knit one in this  fun one-day, 2-hour workshop.  Knowledge of working with Double Point needles will be helpful. I recommend using a chunky yarn such as Kraemer Mauch Chunky or Plymouth Encore Chunky.  It would also be fun to add a little bling

Class Title:  Entrelac Scarf
  Experience Level:    Intermediate                            
Instructor:  Jo Ann Bartholomew
$50.00 Plus Materials  (4 skeins (approx. 400 yards) Noro Silk Garden or Noro Kureyon)  Entrelac (interwoven in French) is a wonderful knitting technique that creates a beautiful basket weave effect.  This pattern was written for the Noro Yarn to enhance the beauty of this technique.  Once you get the idea of entrelac knitting, the technique can be applied to many different projects.  Additional supplies include size 9US needles.  Sample in store

Class Title:  Basic Mittens

$60.00  Plus Materials  We have had a lot of requests for instructions for the basic 4 needle mitten.  Here is the class for you.  Learn the techniques necessary to make mittens for all of your family members.  They are quick knit, and you can get plenty of them done for holiday gifts.

Class Title:  Giant Felted Mitten
  Experience Level:  Strong Beginner/Intermediate

$ 50.00 Plus Materials   Maybe the traditional Christmas stocking is not for you.  How about a giant felted mitten instead.  Learn to knit this fun, whimsical mitten that can be hung on your mantle or on your front door in place of a wreath.  After it is knitted and wet felted, learn to embellish it with needle felting.

All classes must be paid for in advance. One week notice must be given for all class cancellations and then refunds are only given in the form of credit to be applied to future classes.  Three  student minimum for all classes. Knitwits reserves the right to cancel a class if the student minimum is not met.   If class is canceled by Knitwits, credit will be given in the same method as original payment. 

Class Title:  Knitted/Felted and Embellished Clogs
Experience Level:  Strong Beginner/Intermediate
Instructor:   Jo Ann Bartholomew

$  60.00  Plus Materials   (3-5 Skeins of Galway Wool (depending on size) 2-3 of sole and cuff color and 1-2 of upper color).  Join Jo Ann to learn how to knit these fun felted clogs.  In the first two classes you will knit a pair of wool clogs.  Then, once you bring them home and felt them, the last class you will embellish the felted clogs with needle felted designs.  Have lots of fun while learning new techniques.  These make great Christmas gifts.  Additional supplies include 1 size 13/24” circular needle, and 1 size 11 or smaller/24” circular needle.  Sample in store

Class Title:    Linen Spa Cloth
Experience Level:  Strong Beginner/Intermediate

$  20.00    Plus Materials  (1 skein Louet EuroFlax  Wet Spun Linen)    Here is another quick workshop to make some more Holiday gifts in a snap.  Learn to make a pretty spa cloth (glorified wash cloth).  Later, fill with a wonderful handmade soap, gather with a ribbon, and you have a special gift for your girlfriends,  teachers, or anyone  you want to give “just a little something” to.  One skein of this great yarn will produce at least two spa cloths.
